Abby Angel Fund

HSWC established the Abby Angel Fund in the memory of our beloved resident dog, Abby, who passed away in 2005. Read below for stories about some Abby Angel Fund beneficiaries.

This fund is reserved for animals arriving at the shelter in need of veterinary attention, for which no budgeted funds are available. If you'd like to contribute to the Abby Angel Fund, please note Abby Angel Fund on your donation. We appreciate your support for this vital program.

Beneficiaries

Teddy

My name is Teddy and I am the survivor of an animal cruelty case. Today you see me happily living with my new family, but life was not always wonderful.

The family I used to live with didn't feed me and I wasted away to 7 pounds. But thanks to animal cruelty investigators I was taken away and began my road to recovery! I waited patiently at the shelter while my case was under investigation and once this was over, the kind people from the Humane Society of Williamson County came and got me...they nursed me back to health and found me a wonderful new family.

In just a short time my weight has tripled...today weighing in at a healthy 21 pounds. I owe my life to the kindness of strangers, generous donations to the Abby Angel Fund...and of course the wonderful folks at the HSWC.

Beauty

We all know the old adage "Beauty is only skin deep." Recently the Humane Society of Williamson County (HSWC) in Leander, Texas discovered yet again that sometimes the true beauty is the spirit of an animal - not what you see on the outside. BEAUTY was the surprise waiting at the shelter gate on Friday, August 8th, a sad and bedraggled young female Weimaraner; her eyes pleaded with the staff for help and comfort, her gentleness apparent from the first moment.

Beauty was skeletal, covered in fleas and ticks, her nails had grown so long she could barely walk and she was suffering from an unknown skin condition. Following a medical assessment it was discovered that a biopsy had been done on her throat in the past but the stitches had never been removed, and her lymph nodes were swollen. Beauty had been on her own and neglected for a long time.

She is a mystery, well behaved and well trained. Beauty heels on a leash, has great social skills, she clearly has had obedience training, she is about three years old. Where did she come from? The staff asked her but she has kept silent about her past and seems to be looking towards a shining new future with excitement. It will be a long, arduous and costly convalescence hopefully leading to complete recovery.

The feeling persists with the HSWC staff that she some how misplaced a caring owner who is still looking for her. Maybe there is a vet out in the Texas yonder that will recognize our gal Beauty. The Shelter staff hopes that someone will recognize Beauty and help us find her missing owner. Right now she is content and has made the Shelter Office her temporary home.

The HSWC "Abby Angel Fund" that helps the Shelter pay for the long term medical care of our animals has been depleted by the costly surgeries of two of our dogs, Bentley and Poppy, and the veterinarian bills for a severely burned dog, Baxter. Beauty needs a benefactor! Please help us raise the funds needed to cover her medical expenses; we are confident that she will turn out to be as beautiful on the outside as she is in so many other ways. Of all the mysteries that surround Beauty, there is nothing mysterious about her ability to love!

Baxter

My name is Baxter and I'm here to tell you a story about how the kind and caring people at the Humane Society of Williamson County saved my life. I may only be 7 months old, but I have endured a lot in my short life and wanted to share my story.

I grew up with a family that I thought I could always call my own. Then, unexpectedly, my family took me for a ride in their car (I thought we were going to the park to play fetch) and drove me to a local shelter. Being young and naive, it was very frightening. Suddenly I was surrounded by loud noises, dogs barking and concrete walls. I kept thinking that if I waited long enough, my family would return. But alas, as the minutes rolled into hours and the hours rolled into days, it became clear...I was on my own.

I was in a lot of pain from a severe burn running all the way down my back and there was nowhere comfortable to rest. While in the shelter, strange people kept coming by and staring at me, but no matter how friendly and social I was, they kept on walking. Then suddenly, when I thought all was lost, the Humane Society of Williamson County came and took me away. They gave me a home, love, lots of terrific toys and most of all...hope! It's been a long recovery process and my wound requires daily medical attention. I even spent a week staying at the Brodie Animal Hospital where caring doctors and staff tended to my every need. While I know healing will take time, each day is less painful than the day before and I am optimistic that I will live a full and healthy life.

I am very fortunate that people reached out to help me when I could not help myself. However, I know that my medical care has been and will continue to be expensive...and I am not alone. There are many other dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Williamson County also in need of medical attention. Your kind and generous donations to the Abby Angel Fund can help all of us live better lives. Your generous donation can not only save a life...it can make a difference in the quality of life of every animal you support. If it were not for you...I would not be here today.

Update from Baxter

Hello Everyone!

Couldn't wait to spread the news...I am now a member of a wonderful family! Oh what a difference a month can make. My days are now always fun-filled and happy. I lounge around the house, play tug of war with my brother Reggie, go for walks with the family and believe it or not, I even went on my first family vacation!

If you read my story in July you will remember the many medical challenges I faced. But, today, thanks to generous donations to our Abby Angel Fund, I am healthy and happy and looking forward to a wonderful life. Unfortunately, many of the friends I left behind are still struggling, in need of expensive medical treatment. Please help me help them by donating to our Abby Angel Fund, so that they too may have a bright, healthy and happy future.

Bently is a happy, loving dog that would make a wonderful addition to any family. He loves children, cats and other dogs. He also loves to cuddle in bed.

Bently is currently in foster care due to his medical condition. There is a possibility for more surgery in his future and Bently will need rehabilitation after his surgery. Through our Abby Angel Fund, we are asking for assistance with Bently's medical care. Please help Bently to become the amazing dog that he is meant to be.
