Group & Scout Projects
Does your group want to do a service project? Looking for a project for your Eagle or Silver award? HSWC has many suitable projects for scouts and groups of all ages. Do you have your own project idea or would like to see a listing of our current project needs? Many more projects may be available for completion that are not listed below. We'd love to hear from you. Contact our Community Relations Manager at volunteer@hswc.net.
Please note that unless otherwise agreed upon, groups must provide all equipment and materials necessary to complete your project.
Groups - General
- Create new outdoor dog kennels - Construct kennels out of heavy duty chain link fencing, put in a cement border, weed cloth, and pea gravel.
- Donation drop off center - Design and construct a donation collection structure, provide and label 5-6 large bins to hold donations, and provide a large bulletin board for us to post flyers for needed donations. Group must provide all materials necessary to construct center.
- Painting projects - Clean and paint various rooms in the main office including the hallway, Director's office, holding, isolation, and quarantine. Group must provide brushes/rollers.

- Remove old wooden fencing - Dig up posts and dispose of fencing.
- Run Electricity to Front Gate - Rent a Ditch-Witch and run a trench+electrical cable from the fuse box in the back of the kennel closest to the front road along the driveway out to the gate area. Electricity is needed for a powered gate, as well as for lighting for the flags and signs.
- Fencing - Remove the barbed wire fencing from the front of the property line (along the main road), and organize the donation of or purchase its replacement with a ranch-style 3 rail fence. Approximately 400ft of fencing is needed, which will need to be painted white.
- Fencing Maintenance - Check, repair, and/or repaint the existing fencing on the property, as needed.
- Landscaping - Replace the wooden pathway 4x4 boards on either side of the main pathway with landscaping bricks (only the front half of the path, from wash-out to office). Materials will need to be provided by volunteers.
