Q: How
do I qualify for a free spay or neuter?
A: Our free spay and neuter program is for any
owned animal of a family or individual that is within low or moderate income
levels.
Q: How do I determine if I qualify for this program?
A:
1) Anyone on any form of public
assistance qualifies, i.e., food stamps, temporary assistance for needy
families, WIC, Social Security, VA Disability, Section 8 public housing,
Medicaid, school lunch programs, unemployment insurance, other, etc.
2) Anyone who certifies that they
have a current temporary financial challenge that limits their ability to
afford to spay/neuter their pet, i.e., currently unemployed or under-employed,
excessive medical bills, etc.
3) Income/family size combination
falls within 300% of the FPIL (federal poverty income level) per chart below.

Do I need to bring proof that I am
on public assistance or that I fall within the income guidelines?
A:
Yes, you must bring verification; however, we do not need to keep a
copy on file at the shelter.
Q.
Will my info be kept private?
A:
Yes, HSWC will not keep copies of any private or financial information
on file at HSWC.
Q.
Do I need to show proof of
A:
No, you only need to meet our low income guidelines.
Q: What procedures do I have to get done on my pet at the clinic?
A: You must get your animal
spayed or neutered. You must provide proof
of current rabies vaccination. If your
animal does not have a current rabies vaccination, you will need to purchase a rabies shot for $5.00.
Q: Can
I get any other services for my pet at the same time at your clinic?
A: Yes,
you can purchase a $20.00 health package
which includes a rabies shot, microchip, and DA2PP for dogs and FVRCP for cats. In addition, you can purchase a heartworm
test and preventative for your dog and a FIV/Felv test for your cat.
Q.
What animals can I bring in for free
spay/neuter?
A: All
owned dogs, cats, puppies or kittens.
Puppies and kittens must weigh at least three pounds. Feral cats qualify if they receive a rabies
shot and you are listed as their owner on the certificate.
