Board of Directors

We are seeking to fill vacant positions on our 15-member Board of Directors. We would like to hear from anyone who is passionate about animal interests in our community with Public Relations, Advertising, Veterinarian, Legal, General Business, Business Planning or Fundraising experience.

If you are interested in learning more about serving on our Board of Directors, please review the Board Member Requirements (Word .doc) and complete the Board Member Application (Word .doc) and send them to sburgess@hswc.net. You may also contact Janet Ott at jott@hswc.net for more information.

Leadership Committees

Calling all volunteers—the Humane Society of Williamson County’s Board of Directors is looking to expand our leadership committee structure to further our mission.  We are looking for volunteers to join the following Board Committees:

  • Fundraising Committee
  • Strategic Planning Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Facility Committee

Our committees are made up of Board Members and volunteers.  Our committees meet once a month and have both large and small project tasks available for volunteers.  Below is a brief summary of the committee work planned for the next six months.  If you have as little as a couple hours a month available to help, we can put your talents to work.   Feel free to pass this message to anyone you know that might be interested in lending us their talents in these critical areas.

Marketing Committee: This is a newly formed committee overseeing the marketing of the HSWC and our mission, meaning; it is our goal to strengthen the HSWC brand, ensuring all public relations are beneficial to our cause and reaffirming that our mission is being served within the community. Some examples of projects that will be tackled over the next six months:

  • taking advantage of the weekly KVUE "Pet of the Week" spots by creating a forum for shelter hot buttons,
  • repricing the market,
  • putting the face of HSWC and our mission in the public eye,
  • distinguishing ourselves from our counterparts,
  • participating in community activities
  • and fine tuning communications from the HSWC.
In short, it is our goal to create a brand/logo that is recognizable and trusted. Interested parties please contact Kelly Smith at Marketing@hswc.net

Fundraising Committee:  This committee oversees the planning and coordination of fundraising efforts for HSWC.  Don’t let the title scare you—we won’t ask you to directly solicit funds.  We are looking for volunteers to help plan and execute our annual golf tournament, use their creative juices to develop and implement a memorial gift program, develop an e-newsletter to keep our donors updated and help us throw some really fun parties!  If any of these projects sound interesting, please contact our Fundraising Committee Chair, Janet Ott at jott@hswc.net

Strategic Planning Committee:  This committee coordinates our long-range planning.  It is an exciting time for HSWC as we enter our second year as a no-kill shelter.  We’ve set a goal to develop a one year, three year and five year plan that incorporates the expected growth of our community.  We need visionaries to help us position HSWC to make the biggest impact on animal welfare in our rapidly growing community.  Our goal is to develop a plan to prevent pet overpopulation from developing as a result of our exploding human population.  If any of these projects sound interesting, please contact our Strategic Planning Committee Chair, Kim Lutz at klutz@hswc.net

Finance Committee:  This committee is empowered to study and make recommendations regarding all financial procedures and controls at the shelter and oversees our external audit.  Being good stewards of all our donor dollars is critical to our success and furthering our mission.   We’re looking for volunteers to help us evaluate our internal controls, convert our record keeping to web-based quickbooks and review and write key finance policies.  If any of these projects sound interesting, please contact our Finance Committee Chair, HR Strickland at hstrickland@hswc.net.

Facilities Committee:  This committee is empowered to study, make recommendations and execute all shelter facility improvements and major maintenance projects.  We’re looking for volunteers to help us evaluate and prioritize our facility needs.  Also needed are volunteers with trade skills in the area of building, concrete, electrical, fencing, landscaping, septic maintenance, plumbing, etc.  If any of these projects sound interesting or if you have specific skills you’d like to contribute of if you just want to pitch in and help with a facility project, please contact our Facility Committee Chair, Brian Buzzaird at bbuzzaird@hswc.net.
